Questions About Sports Therapy
Do I need a GP referral?
No, you can book directly without a referral.
What is the difference between Sports Therapy and Sports Massage?
Sports Therapy is a comprehensive assessment and treatment for specific injuries. Sports Massage is a focused, hands-on technique to reduce tension, improve circulation, and aid in recovery.
Should I see a Sports Therapist ?
Sports Therapists are excellent for musculoskeletal issues. Sports therapy specifically focuses on returning patients to physical/sports activity through rehabilitation but equally you dont need to be a sports person to benefit.
What should I wear?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing (e.g., shorts and a t-shirt) that allows access to the injured area. Further undress may be required depending on treatment required.
Will it hurt?
Treatments can cause discomfort, sometimes described as a "good pain," as deep-seated tension is released. You can ask for adjustments to pressure at any time.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies based on the injury. Some issues are resolved in one session, while others require a structured treatment plan.
What does a first session involve?
The initial visit typically includes a full postural and movement assessment to identify the root cause of the injury, followed by treatment.
Is it just for sports injuries?
No, it treats everyday injuries, including desk-related neck pain, "gardening shoulder," and general muscular tension.
How often should I get a sports massage?
Many choose a maintenance program, with some coming weekly or bi-weekly for acute issues, while others prefer monthly or quarterly visits to prevent injury.
